ETL to QE, Update 51, Timid Over Engineering

Date: 2024-12-07

I just spend a couple hours trying to run a variety of Nostr relays to take a look at their SQL schema's and ERD's. It was only after exporting a couple of them when I asked the question, "Why am I doing what I am doing?"

I have had a couple Nostr flavored Grift's over the last year,

  • ENS for NIP05 - Use ENS names as part of Nostr Usernames via NIP05 and eth.limo
  • Nostr NIP05 Server - Develop a server and web interface where people can claim, buy, and update NIP05 identities
  • DD Token - Use Nostr Tags to develop a token standard with rules built into the token standard for who can mint tokens and max supply
  • CGFS - A append only database with cryptographic provenance
  • Nostr Scraping Tutorial - Download millions of Nostr Events and try to make sense of them

Not a single one of these projects was completed at any level before getting side tracked. I always keep losing track of the big picture. I never develop a Design Document for the most simple projects. Frankly the fact that I don't even have a Nostr NIP05 Server is embarrassing as that is the most simple well defined problem one could ask for.

Well we need to stop losing perspective and come up with a playbook similar to one one elon has,

Elon's 5 Rules for Project Success

I really need someone else to interrogate what I am trying to build, but if I use my little heuristic Fold awareness upon itself with the correct prompts I should be on a vector for success.

Well that's the root question, What does success look like?

That question naturally leads to, Success of what?, success of which project up there?

Then comes the next question, After you are successful then what? and What does success look like in terms of other people?

I have found documentation to be super important so that comes next, Where is your quest articulated and logged? and in terms of checkpoints, What does the next checkpoint look like?

But something else seems to be missing here.

Something about integrating into your Personal Legend / Grift / Organizing Principal....

Well there is that quote from Paul Atreides in Dune Messiah about his position being the byproduct of a series of Strong Decisions.

Why is success important?
